Dieser Gottesdienst war mal wieder etwas Besonderes: Zwei Jahre nach der Märkischen Allgemeinen Zeitung haben die Potsdamer Neuesten Nachrichten zum ersten Mal auf den Gottesdienst aufmerksam gemacht.
An der Orgel spielte Frau Müller, Studentin am Institut für Musik und Musikpädagogik in Golm und Organistin in einer Kirchengemeinde in Sachsen. Wir konnten als Prediger Romesh Modayil von der Methodist International Congregation Berlin-Charlottenburg begrüßen und der neue Superintendent des Kirchenkreises Potsdam, Herr Dr. Zehner, wollte auch einen Eindruck vom englischen Gottesdienst bekommen. Zum ersten Mal fand der Novembergottesdienst im Kirchenschiff statt. Dort war es kälter als wir bei der Gottesdienstvorbereitung geplant hatten, doch die Lieder klangen nur auf der großen Orgel richtig gut.
Mit der Sitzheizung hielten wir es gut bis zur Predigt durch. Pastor Modayil bezog seine Predigt auf den kirchlichen Feiertag Allerheiligen am 1. November. Nach evangelischem Verständnis gehören alle Gläubigen zu Gott und sind damit heilig oder Heilige. Er forderte uns auf, das auch im Alltag zu zeigen, indem wir unseren Nächsten Gutes tun. Nach dem Gottesdienst waren wir doch alle etwas ausgekühlt. Ein gutes Dutzend Leute blieben noch, um sich bei Bohnensuppe von Frau Walch wieder aufzuwärmen. Der nächste Gottesdienst auf englisch findet am ersten Sonntag im Mai (3.5.) 2009 statt.

This worship was special again. For the first time the Potsdamer Neueste Nachrichten, one of the two largest local newspapers, announced the service. The other newspaper, Märkische Allgemeine Zeitung, had announced already the first worships more than two years ago. Ms Müller, student at the Institute for Music and Teaching of Music in Golm and organist in a congregation in Saxony, was playing the organ enthousiastically. The preacher was Pastor Romesh Modayil from the Berlin-Charlottenburg International Methodist Congregation.
We were also happy to welcome Dr. Zehner, the new Superintendent of the Evangelical Potsdam church district, who wanted to get a first hand impression of the worship. For the first time, too, the November worship took place in the big sanctuary. There it was colder than we had imagined when we planned the worship, but the hymns would sound well only on the big organ. So we stayed in the sanctuary warmed by the heated pews. In his sermon, Pastor Modayil referred to All Saints' Day on November 1. According to Protestant understanding all Christian believers belong to God and therefore, all of them are holy or, in other words, saints! He called on us to show our holiness also in daily life by doing good to our neighbours. After the service everyone felt a little frozen. About a dozen people stayed to warm up with a good thick bean soup from Ms Walch. The next worship in English will take place on the first Sunday in May (3 May) 2009.
