ABOUT THE CHURCH

A few meters southwest of the old village church below the Reiherberg [Heron Hill] you will find the picturesque "new" church named after Emperor Frederic III of Germany. It is a red brick building with green-glazed formed bricks. The square steeple is set on the northern side close to the choir. Its roof is a longitudinal saddleback that is adorned by a conical turret. In 1970 the delapidated original turret was torn down. It was rebuilt when the top of the steeple was renovated in 2006. The shape of the choir corresponds to five edges of an octogon. The vestry is an addition on the southern side, the royal pew box is added on the northern side. The nave is covered by a steep saddleback roof with pediments, whereas the choir roof is hipped. The church's main entrance is in the western vestibule.

The church's interior makes it one of the nicest in Brandenburg. As early as the turn of the 19/20th century, Golm was a favourite place for excursions. Today as in the past, Golm is well served by several train and bus lines for visitors coming from Potsdam or Berlin.
The church offers concerts, serenades, and lectures; see the German list of the events. You can also use the church for your wedding. Please contact one of our pastors, worship leadership or the president of church council.

The organ, built by Carl Eduard Gesell, Potsdam, has a neo-Gothic case formed like a shrine. It has a great organ, positive, and pedal with eleven voices. This and many other still existing organs by Gesell are characterized by a surprisingly fresh, poignant sound. The solid quality of his instruments provided him with customers in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Constantinople (today Istanbul), Turkey. Gesell's company still exists today as Alexander Schuke Potsdam - Orgelbau GmbH.
